Description:This is a very traditional south indian dish which is eaten with
rice.
Preparation Time: 25 mins

MAIN INGREDIENTS:

White pumpkin – ¼ kgs(cut into medium size squares)
Redgram dhal(Toor dal) – Cup
Tamarind – 1 marble size ball
Sambhar powder – 1 tablespoons
Multipurpose powder – 2 tablespoons
Turmeric powder – teaspoon
Fresh coconut(grated) – 1 tablespoons
Gingelly oil – 4 tablespoons
Blackgram dal – 1 teaspoon
Salt – To taste

FOR SEASONING:

Blackgram dhal – 1 teaspoon
Bengalgram dhal – 1 teaspoon
Groundnuts – 15
Red chillies – 1(halved)
Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida – 1 teaspoon

METHOD:

1.Pressure cook the redgram dhal with little salt and turmeric powder.
2.Cook the pumpkin pieces in just enough water with little salt and turmeric powder.
3.Soak the tamrind in a cup of water and extract the juice.
4.Heat the oil in a pan and add asafoetida powder and mustard seeds.
5.When the mustard seeds crackle add all the other ingredients for seasoning except the curry leaves. When the dhals turn golden brown add the curry leaves and the tamarind juice.
6.Allow it to simmer till the raw flavour disappears and add the cooked pumpkin,cooked dhal and salt and mix nicely.
7.After one boil, add the sambar powder,multipurpose powder and grated coconut mixed in a little water.
8.Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes on slow flame.
9.Serve hot with rice.
